Laptop "error 22"

Hi,

I recently tried to dual boot my Sony Vaio FZ18L, with Ubuntu. But now when i load up the laptop i get a:
"GRUB LOADING STAGE 1.5"
"GRUB LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...."
"ERROR 22"

So i went in to ubuntu (from the CD) and loaded up the Partition manager and deleted the newly created partitions i made for the linux install, however now i cant boot and still get the above message and cant get into Vista!

Any help, much appreciated.
 
if you're still getting the complete message including the stuff about grub then my best guess is that you still have some ubuntu leftover on your laptop.
grub is something that only linux has and vista doesn't.
 
Well you see thats the problem. I don't have any trace of Linux on the laptop any more. I have a "recovery" directory. Which was there with the laptop. Two small segments of 3mb - which are unallocated. And one large segment which is formatted NFTS.
 
If you have a Vista disk enter repair mode and open console, when there type:

Code: 
BootRec.exe /FixMbr

This will put the default bootloader back in.
 
Dont have a Vista disk due to Sony thinking thats its a good idea that they give you no disks when you buy a laptop
 
Well then you may need to get your hands on one, is there a rescue partition that you can repair off? I don't think rescue partitions needs the MBR to be intact in case of a problem like this.
 
There is, and according to the manual you press "f10" at the bios loading screen. But unfortunalty that does nothing, so i think i will have to phone Sony up :(
 
linux error 22

ok i had the same problem.... first boot from the linux cd
then reinstall linux
restart and start vista
download easybcd http://neosmart.net/downloads/software/EasyBCD/EasyBCD 1.7.1.exe

after installation go and start the program and go to the manage bootloaders tab
click write mbr
then go into vista disk management (right click my computer and click manage, click disk management)
delete and reformat linux partition
And there you go!

Ok, I managed to get a Vista disk that i could boot from. Repaired the Boot loader in CMD and manged to install windows from this disk - however i now trying to get my Sony back to being...well a Sony so I thought i would try the Recovery option (F10) That now works however instead of bringing up the standard Recovery options - i get the boot loader options.

Any ideas? (Going to phone Sony tomorrow)
