Laptop for a Student

My friend is trying to get a new laptop in the low to mid price range (probably no more than $1500). This laptop is going to be for a student who for the most part uses the laptop for schoolwork and nothing else. As far as size, she doesn't move it around too much, but it would be nice to not have it weigh a ton. What are good laptops that would fit under these options?

thats quite a bit for a laptop for that usage. does she have any battery life preferences?

I recommend IBM Thinkpad, Dell, Toshiba and LG. I am using a new LG Ls50a and I love it. It is light, has nice design, battery lasts over 3 hours and it's fast, with centrino processor. Picture is very clear, and I haven't had any problems with it so far. It is definitely under $1500. IBM is expensive, unless you find a used one on ebay.

dont look past the ibooks with the 12 or 15" screens especially for work they are also in that proce range otherwise the dells um i think 700m or something small like that

my brother got a dell latitude 110L and it is pretty fast and light (i can barely carry a gallon of milk so it must be pretty light if i can carry it no problem). it works for world of warcraft pretty good so simple tasks are probably no problem. as for the price its around $900 for starting price at dell.com
