Laptop for college

Eh, I'm buying a nice timbuk2 bag from work for cheap (god I love my discount) so weight isn't too much of an issue, I'm really leaning towards the acer, I just don't want to shoot myself in the foot.

Trust me, get the Asus, it's a much better brand. Acer laptops are...well...I had one before and it wasn't that great. The build was rough and it looked crappy. As for the CPU, it's only .2ghz, not really that big of a deal. And seriously, do you really want to carry around a 7+ lb laptop? My dad has a 15.4" wide laptop and it's a beast, imagine at 16"+. Go with the smaller Asus one, you won't regret it.

Mac = Out of budget

Yes they are good, but not good for what the OP is wanting to do. and some of the things you have said are not true!

Nah, like I said, we have a couple, can't stand the things, I like to do all my "kiddie" stuff too much, I really appreciate the helpful advice though, really opened up my world.

Macs are not really upgradable, PCs are ! Macs cost more in the long run!
