Okay two things, one if you want a laptop for college, wait till you are about to graduate or even before you start classes before getting it so it is cheaper and you have better technology to choose from. Two, if at all possible, see about getting a desktop and a laptop. I am in college and have one of each. Anything that takes heavy computing (gaming for example) I use my desktop for. My laptop is for class and for portability reasons I got a pentium M in it, which is not nearly as powerful as a P4. Also I feel I should mention that I know three people whose laptops with Hyperthreading and/or 64 bit support have burned up their motherboards(all these laptops are less than 6 months old), so I would stay away from a P4 in a laptop.
