Laptop gets no power

Ok well I bought a laptop used travelmate 2000 and it came with no ac adapter. So I didn't wan to spend $50 for a new one and found a cheap ac adapter laying around my house. It was not the right voltage but close. I plugged it in and the lights were fickering for about 30 seconds but still could not get it to power up. Then all of a sudden no lights nothing. So I knew that would not work and bought a lensington universal laptop adapter. I plugged it into the laptop and still no power, no lights, nothing. I was wondering if there was maybe a easy way to fix this blown fuse or something like that. So if anyone knows how to fix this that would be great. thanks
 
Most 12v DC addaptor should work. If you're trying AC, you might of fried it! But yeah, 12v and usally around 1amp, it should power most any laptop. It might not charge the battery, though... However, there are ways to make battery charges, too.
 
Heres the specs of the ac adapter i used
MODEL NO: DA-20-24
Input: 120VAC 60Hz 28VA
OUTPUT: 24VAC .83A 20VA
and heres what the laptop needs
DC rating 19V 7.1A
 
OUCH... Eh, you might of... It's hard to say, though. Again, just look for one that matches the specs. I see it's higher than 12v so you'll have to find one with more, perhaps even more amps...

I once used this power converter that basically converted AC to DC that mached a car battery(it was to use car/lighter stuff indoors) It put out 12v and 4amps...powered my old laptop quite nicely.
 
I think the motherboard is actually not fried. Ok so I found this huge battery pack charger. with the output at 13vdc and 2800A and the laptop got more of that flickering. So I think I might be able to find a adapter that would work. Is there anyone that I should not try that will fry my motherboard. Also I called up acer and they said that the universal one would not work because the universal adapter is 65w and my laptop is 130w so much for that. thanks

Yea, you most likely fried it. Or it could have alreayd been fried because that one lady who plugged just about every type of AC adaptor into it...

Might want to check that out some. Let me know if you get it working BTW.
 
i work for an acer repair centre and their systems are very picky about how much voltage and power they get... you might be able to boot using the power adaptor you have without the battery in as it wont have to power the battery charging circuit but i would seriously consider getting an official one
 
i cant find it on their site, you'll have to get into contact with them yourself im afraid. Although the notebook itself is discontinued they still produce a power adaptor thats suitable for it :)
