I have an HP Pressario that is about 3-4 years old. I have either a 60 or 80 Gb Toshiba HDD that has started to make a buzzing noise, no clicking, and I am not able to access it when it starts making this noise. This happened about a month ago, so I took it out of the case and tapped/shook it a little and let it sit out of the computer overnite. Upon putting it back in, it worked so I forgot about backing it up... dohh. Anyway, the noise came back last night and all the programs froze, and I was not able to Ctrl Alt Del or anything like that. I just stopped it cold and removed the drive again. This morning it lasted about 5 minutes before it froze up again. My question is: Is the hard drive toast? and if so, is there anyway for me to get data off it, like some special process or place I could send it to that would not cost obscene amounts of money? Or is this something that I could fix? I don't know much about hard drives or if one can fix them on one's own. Thanks a lot.
