Laptop hard drive swap

I just got an older laptop that doesn't have a hard drive, thinking that I could just put one of mine into it. But I didn't realize that it takes an IDE and all I have is SATA. so I bought an IDE to SATA adapter thinking that it would solve my problem. But I hook it up and and all it says is that no operating system is detected. I have windows 7 on the hard drive. Could Windows 7 be too new or is something else not compatible or should I just ditch the IDE to SATA plan and buy a newer laptop or hard drive.

The laptop: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs...1&langId=-1&productId=11035373#specifications

The adapter: http://www.cooldrives.com/index.php...e&utm_medium=merchant+center&utm_campaign=gmc

I appreciate any help. Bryan

ide to sata adapters are meant more for desktops, not much room in laptops for extra adapters, wouldn`t ditch the laptop for sake of a hdd, try amazon and ebuyer, you should pick up a 2.5 inch ide drive pretty cheap.

FYI, you can't take a hard drive that was installed in another machine with Windows on it and put it in a different machine and expect it to boot up as the hardware is all different.

what laptop is it? it might be a better choice to just get a new laptop if the one you have is really old. most laptops with IDE drives i have seen are not worth getting a new hDD for :(
