Hi im interested in buying a laptop in the 1000-1500 dollar range. I want a laptop that I can use for schoolwork and also play games on. Ive never bought a laptop before so I really dont know where to start.

Almost any laptop now-a-days should be able to satisfy your schoolwork part, but depending on the games you plan on playing, it may or may not satisfy that. Can you be a bit more specific on the actual games you plan on playing in the future/long-run?

Some things you want to look into is how you will be using it.
If you want to use it a lot and carry it around, you'll want a light laptop with smaller screens and good battery life. If you plan on using it at home and have it stationed on a table and such, then you wont really have to consider those options too much, but they still effect it too.

It comes down to what you have to spend and what you are going to do with it. Game play isn't great on laptops because of the video cards. So if that is your primary reason you might be disapointed in that price range.

I seriously doubt you'll be able to find a laptop that'll play those games within that price range... At least not not smoothly or on high resolutions/detail settings.

A good gaming laptop.. you should probably invest in about 2000+ to get something to play those games great and smooth.

You can look into Dell's E1705. For what you want, maybe go for the Dual Core Powerhouse. Then upgrade to the 256MB Nvidia GeForce 7900. That'll set you a little over your price range, but it may be worth it.
