laptop insurance?

I just bought a new HP dv8327cl notebook and am thinking about getting and insurance policy to cover possible accidents. In the past I have never worried about getting "comprehensive" insurance to cover things past the normal home insurance coverage. This notebook costs quite a bit more than anything I have had in the past and I want coverage against hardware failures, failures due to virus, etc, etc.

That being said I do not want to pay and arm and a leg for something I will probably never use (have never had an incident until about a week ago on another machine).

Can anyone recommend a good company with decent prices? Also when insuring should I insure for the exact amount of purchase or more? I was thinking about plusing the coverage up about 10% but do not know if a company will cover anything past MSRP-depreciation.

Thank in advance.

I dont know anything about computer insurance, but I DEFINATELLY would not insure it more than its worth. If something was to happen to it tomorrow, they still wouldnt pay you out what you insured it for. I had a 5th wheel trailor insured for $13,500, it got flooded out and written off, we only received $11,000.

Why not insure it with the manufacturer? That way if you do damage it or something goes wrong with it you know that you're going to get the exact eqivilant back from them as they're who you purchased it from.

Sounds like a smart idea to me. I might have to check that out. Thanks

It's what I do with anything I purchase, I always take up insurance with the people I purchase the items from regardless of who the manufacturer are e.g. If I buy a Seagate hard drive from Ebuyer, I'll get some insurance or warranty with Ebuyer instead of Seagate. That way if you ever do claim, they do the donkey work for you with the manufacturer.
