laptop internet problem

i just purchased a brand new dell inspirion 1505 series i believe, from the very first day that i got it i have a wireless connection through a linksys 2.4 ghz router, and everytime i try to load a webpage it takes about 2-3 minutes to fully load the site, however whenever i try to download anything it downloads at about a megabyte a second. I tried downloading mozilla and still the same thing. i also talked to dell for about 5 hours and they were all fricken idiots and i got no where. if anyone knows anything i could do to fix this it would be greatly appreciated, i will try anything.

has to be a problem with your cnnection or even router. i believe you meant to say download at 'bytes per second'..not megabyte.
talk to your manufacturer
 
try connecting with a cable from your laptop to your router. e.g non-wireess connection, just to check if its not the wireless problem.

I connected to the internet through a cable and it works fine so you were right it has something to do with my wireless connection. Do you know how to resolve the problem now? and thank you for all your help so far.

I had a Belkin g wireless router that was doing what you are experiencing. I exchanged it for a g plus router and performance was much better. Cost 20 extra bucks but it was well worth it. Not really familiar with your brand but if it's one of their lower end models I'd say upgrade.
 
You just might have too much security on that wireless connection? Instead of using WPA use WEP, it is just about the same just a bit weaker and it will speed it up a bit. I have hooked up a Toshiba Satellite with WEP and it was pretty good. Nobody is going to really try that hard to tap your connection.
 
It's not just increased speed, the better more expensive brands have greater range and better penetration through obstructions. I really would like to get the news Apple airport but I'm near bankrupt, partly due to chasing the new technology rabbit. I need therapy. Free therapy.
