laptop into router

Hi Everyone,

I wonder if you would be so kind to help or point me in the right direction.
O:K firstly i have a Packard Bell laptop which has wi-fi connectivity. I live near a wi-fi hot-stop and use a wireless internet adapter with aerial (antenna) for better reception. I also have a Samsung Galaxy phone which will only pick up the internet connection if i put my head out of the window (no fun in winter). So can I somehow use my laptop as a router, letting my phone use the internet connection via my laptop.
Many thanks......Nosmo

Maybe I should have mentioned I am running windows 7

Pay for internet service at your house or walk down the street to wherever the wifi hotspot may be :good:

If this is the sort of inane answer I can expect from this website I shall go elsewhere. I posted a serious technical question and was expecting an equally serious answer not some childish wet behind the ears idiot who ****s his sister on a regular basis to make snide remarks, go ahead ban me. Dumb ****ing yank.:good:

Well in all honesty leeching off wifi from somewhere else on a regular basis is stealing. Yes it may be open to the public (such as Starbucks, McDonalds, etc.) but it's not for permanent use.

Strike 2, my town hall supplies open networks all for free. You register at the library or town hall where you receive your access code, which is valid for a year. I am lucky to live in a city that believes internet should be open and free for all, although saying this it is our tax money that is funding it. So no I am not stealing off some overpriced coffee shop or one of your super sized fast food chains. I am using a service provided for the residents.
all I wanted to know if it was possible to use my laptop to send the signal to my phone. I suppose this question may never be answered

No it won't work sending it through the router. Look into purchasing a wireless extender or access point which will take the signal and broadcast it throughout your house.

I don't see this working unless you have two wireless cards in your laptop.

I have done a similar thing in the past with a laptop. ie picked up the wireless signal with the wifi and then bridged it with the Ethernet port on the laptop. Was able to use laptop's Ethernet port to provide internet to a desktop pc that didn't have wifi capability.

You could try getting an access point and attempting to use it as a range extender. This could be tricky if not impossible to get working though.

I do remember hearing ages ago you could get antenna boosters for mobile phones. They effectively wrapped around the phone, if these are available you could get one and hang it out the window?
