Ok so i have a toshiba laptop that i bought about 2-3 yrs ago that im going to be selling so i want to reformat and start fresh for the next owner...anyways the windows sticker on the bottom has since worn off and i can only see the last 8 characters of the vista key...so i downloaded two different "key recovery" programs and they both found a key on this laptop for vista, and athough the programs keys match, they don't match at all with the original key...i have never reformatted this laptop before and i don't recall ever getting a backup disc with the laptop or if i did where it would have gone...so my question is, is the key that is on the laptop that the programs found going to work when i try to reload windows vista again? does it matter that they don't match the orginal key on the bottom?

Most Large manufactures image a mass amount of new computers with the same Product key.

Usually when you use the Computers original Recovery Software you don't have to worry about entering the Product Key, and the Computers are usually preactivated.

The Key under the Laptop is not normally ever used.

its still confusing your conversation on what ya said.
On the lighter side you could order a recovery disc or try a retail. You better be able to get the drivers. you will be down. has to be for the operating system and the laptop.

ok thanks...i luckly found the recovery discs that came with it in the meantime, so i should be good to go then....

If thats it the make several backups. I always did. make two. keep one. no big deal. he or she might need help later.
good show......
