Laptop low Internet Connection

My Lenovo laptop seems to always have a very low Internet connection or no signal at all. I have DSL and a desktop in my basement which is where the wireless signal is coming from. The weird thing is when it says no signal I could still navigate from page to page. But it still is very slow. I have heard that you are not supposed to have a laptop plugged into a power strip with other things, and I do, such as my TV. Could this be causing the problem?

No the power bar should not be a problem.

When the internet connection is connected and working fine, how strong is it?

Is it possible to move your wireless router, to provide a better signal?

If none of these will work, try broadcasting on a different channel, as other wireless devices maybe causing interference. The setting will be under the wireless section of the router.

Are you sure that you are within range of your router? Are there any other types of interferences such as walls?
If so, then you will have to more your laptop closer to your router.
You might be able to view the pages because they might be saved on your computer or you are viewing a cached version of the website.

Plugging your laptop to other electrical appliances also reduces the efficiency of your laptop's wireless card. Plug your computer in a place where there are less electrical appliances(especially those using radio waves).
