Laptop making funny noises

Hi Computer Forum,

I have had my advent laptop for nearly 2 years now but yesterday I noticed my laptop making a funny noise from underneath - it sounded like it was working really hard, and made a noise that sounded like well when your driving and you push the accelerator it did it like 3-4 times then stopped and it happens at least 3 times.

Does anybody know what this is? I know the noise does not sound normal

Have you taken your laptop apart in any way? If it sounds like the hard drive to you, back up any important file immediately as that's a good sign your hard drive is going bad. Try and confirm whether the sound is coming from the hard drive and not a fan, or maybe you left a disk in your optical drive.
 
I agree, most likely the sound is a CD or DVD spinning up, or the fan is running at top speed (might be time to blow the dust of of it). It is also possible that your hard drive is spinning really fast, but a sound like that from a hard drive would likely not be a good thing.
 
thanks for the responses guys - No have never taken my laptop apart in any way. Is there any way that I can prevent my hard drive going bust?

My laptop does not have a disk feature - I was thinking to vacum it underneath for the dust part Not sure if that's a good idea though :-/

its either a bad fan, bad hard drive or a bad CD?DVD drive.. if you are still on warranty I would back up your data and take it to get fixed.
