laptop mc lan game

I was trying to have a lan party w/my friends and we had this laptop:

Minecraft was barely getting 10fps on the lowest settings on this laptop, is that normal?
Just a month ago I played minecraft on a p4 at 40fps... I thought that in lan the computer hosting the game is doing most of the work and the rest of the computers can be crap. Apparently not so is there anything we can do to use this laptop and maybe get ~20 fps?

Any help much appreciated.

That's what I thought. I still don't get how I built a p4 pc with 1gb of ddr2 and a radeon x1950xt and on single player minecraft was lagging like crazy. When my friend hosted a lan game and I joined him I started getting 40fps on that rig like his pc was doing all the job.... Why didn't that happen this time? Could it be the gpu... X1950xt is pretty crappy too nowdays.

Probably your processor as well, but as I said, MC getting low FPS is normal - it's a very bloated and unoptimized Java game.

Also, have you tried lowering the render distance and particle effects?
