Laptop Monitor Thing

Hey!
My new uncle has this monitor, that he can't remember what it is/where he got it, where you can take your laptop and just slide it into the monitors stand. When you plug it in, the monitor takes over the laptop screen so the laptop is like a laptop AND a desktop.
I was wondering what it's called.

i do not understand

So the laptop has a real small screen. He can just take his laptop and slide it into some port on the bottom of his monitor, and it displays what would normally be on his laptop, on the larger monitor.

u can connect any external screen to a laptop. Some laptops will automatically switch to the external screen, some needs to be configured manually. The external screen can display the same content as the laptop screen or it just extends the desktop.

im not sure there are a lot of things to do that

Ohhh, so you're talking about a dock. Where you just put your laptop in it and basically you have like a desktop computer, and when you're done you just take your laptop out.

yea, sounds like a dock, I have a dock setup at work with 2 external monitors :-)

you can't get them for all laptops though, generally only business one's support it.

But this one doesn't plug into the monitor jack, he just sets it on top of the base and it displays. Maybe my memory's jumbled or something.

Some notebooks had/have a docking port on the bottom of them where you can connect it to a docking station. As said though, its mainly for business class notebooks.

Yeah, it's called a dock. You just slide it right in or on and the monitor takes over. An easy search on google can show you some.
