hey guys, im new to the forum but will prolly use it when im stuck on something. anyways, i have an hp xt412 and have had it for a couple yrs now, and the past few months the monitor after being on for a while would start to flicker, and/or the bottom left and right of the screen would bleed colors and turn black. finally, a few weeks ago, it started completely turning off the monitor but the computer was still going, just no video.

i tried taking it apart to maybe replace some fans thinking its overheating my video card or a chip or something, but i cant get the thing apart. i get all the screws out, but its stuck right in the middle and i dont want to risk breaking something. let me know what you guys think it may be. thanks!

Flickering is almost always a sure sign of a short in the monitor cables. Usally just the backlight giving out. You could replace the monitor, but if the laptop's a few years old, it might not even be worth it. But if you want to, check ebay for replacements.

well your right, it is only the backlight. i shined my LED flashlight on the screen and if you look closely i can see everything, so is there a way to switch out the backlight on that?

Not really seeing as it's typically a wire problem. I mean think how many times that wire binds when you close and open the lid...
