Laptop Networking Help Needed!! Please!!

Ok, so, I just bought a new gateway laptop and have recently been having troubles connecting to the internet. Our house has a completely wired connection (before this it only ever ran to one computer) but now i've run an ethernet cable from my modem to my laptop and it connects to the network just fine (usually) and says i have "internet access" (usually). The only problem is that my browsers won't actually open any pages. Now the weird part is that whenever i connect to an unprotected, wireless network with a very weak signal just called "linksys", it tells me that i have "no internet access" from that network but then my browsers start pulling up web pages no problem. The second i disconnect from "linksys" i can't get online anymore (though it still says i can). What the heck is going on? Can someone please help me?

Do you have any static IP addresses set for your wired connection? If that's the case, then maybe your wifi's setill configured to DHCP so it'll pick up an address. As for the whole internet/no internet access message, that's not always the most reliable indication of web access.
