laptop newbie; heating

I just got a new laptop, i've never used one before. The computer froze a few tmes, and several times it refused to boot (as in, the power lights went on, can hear hardware whirring, but nothing on screen). The laptop was placed on a cloth, and made the laptop very hot underneath. My question is, is this the reason that the computer froze/refused to boot, or could it be other reasons (as this is a new computer and i wish to explore all possibilities of error).

Yes, I bet heat was the issue. You have to be very careful with laptops as many today will overheat very easilly. The fans should NEVER be restricted.

If the machine works fine after it cools down, you can basically limit out other problems. Just be more careful in the future.

Almost forgot...some laptops have fan issues. Be sure your fan is kicking in when it starts to get warm...

Oh yes, and I have a laptop cooling pad if you'd like one. I got it for my old laptop, but just ended up upgrading to another laptop. Assuming I can still find the darn thing, it's only been used like once or twice, so basically new.
