laptop not working after re-installed

had a problem with my laptop last week, where programs on desktop images disappeared, and couldn't recognise shortcuts to open programs. then found out that norton internet security uninstalled itself and things just started going wrong so my brother in law decided to re-install xp on my laptop.

but now, i can use usb ports(nothing happens) and my internal antenna for wireless connection i cant turn on, also i cant use the volume any more!!

is it just a simple case of just turning them back on again? im not that computer friendly so dont know where or how to do so?

Your brother in law probably didn't use a restore CD or install any drivers. Rightclick on my computer, go to proporties, the hardware tab, then device manager. Is there anything in the Unknown Device list? How about with an ! beside them?

Look on the manufacturers website for your laptop model and get all the drivers.
