I have an HP laptop thats four years old... it won't boot properly anymore... i'll start it, and it will load xp then once i log in two min later it turns off... i tried starting in safe mode and that was successful.. anyone has any idea at what could be the problem?

If its not power related, could also be overheating. Have you ever cleaned it? I'd recommend cleaning the fans and vents... even if its not the problem just to keep the performance up.

I've cleaned it with compressed air... that made no difference... IDK if it over heating because i'm using the HP stand for it... and it's flat..., it's not over heating... but it'll start into xp, and then stay on xp for like 10 min, then randomly restart..

You say randomly, so you're not doing anything unusual at the time? Theres no pattern to when it turns off?

Could be a virus... maybe.

Also... any sounds? Unusual lights? Errors? Try taking out any devices plugged in

I think i've posted a bit much in this thread :P

Okay i realized it's a virus, that runs when the comptuer starts... i'm looking to getting rid of that virus tonight....

haha, ok. What do you mean it wont recognise it? Is there a light on the transformer? or on the laptop?
Try to see how far the power gets from the wall.
