Laptop Not Working

My friend came with a computer to me because im usualy pretty good with computers, but now im stomped. When i turn on the computer it starts loading the windows files and then the screen turns blue and I can only move the cursor. And after 3 minutes or so it turns off. Please help.
 
Makes me think it probably has a virus... I'd try some external scans to confirm.

Also, can you open task manager? If so, can you access/launch any programs?
 
Thing is when i try to install it the only hard drive i find is: (X:)BOOT and the cd/dvd drive so i cant install it...
 
I don't know what version of Windows you're attempting to load but it's probably a SATA/AHCI driver issue. The easy/lazy way around this is to go into the bios and disable AHCI/Set IDE mode/Comparability mode/etc. That should allow you to see the HD through Windows setup without having to install drivers.
 
Cant seem to find it anywhere in my BIOS settings? I have Win Vista installed and trying to install Win 7.
