I have a Dell Inspiron 1100 and its starting to overheat and go extremely slow after only being on for a short time...my computer has been on for an hour now and its already going really slow and its real hot..any help?
i saw a post about this unit and they recommend shutting the machine down and taking a vacuum cleaner to the intake/exhaust ports for the cpu cooler to remove as much dust as possible. I doubt the effectiveness of this will be limited as its necessary to completely open the thermal module to clean it properly.
You also need to make sure that you're using the unit on a hard flat surface as all modern notebooks (of a reasonable speed) needs lots of air circulating around them.
How old is this notebook, can you see or hear any fan action ?
If it is so hot that it is uncomfortable to the touch, you probably need a new fan assembly. It will not get better. You are risking loosing the processor and possibly ruing the HD from the heat. sometimes even if the fan turns they are binding and not turning fast enough
