this past month i have had problems with my laptops power.i recently moved to europe and i brought two adapers with me just incase i lost one or something. anyway, recently i have been hearing this screaching noises coming from my laptop. the noises come from part of the laptop where you plug in the power source. when i plug it all the away it starts making noises and the laptop TURNS OFF at first it was just once every two weeks but now its almost everyday, and its getting worse. this only happens when i plug it in all the way, so if i just plug in the tip of the power thing its fine but it always come off.i've been here for about 2 1/2 months, but it just started happening this month.i have tried both power adapters but its still the same.:( the laptop used to be pluged in to the wall alone but now im using an extension with other sockets in it. i heard something about power overload? any suggestions on what could be causing the problem?HELP!!!

It sounds like you got a bad power addaptor. I'd grab a multi-meeter and check the output on that addaptor. It also couldn't hurt to be sure it's rated for 120-240 volts and 50/60Hz. However, if it wasn't and you plugged it into a different outlet, the power addaptor would probably blow. I kind of doubt any power would make it to your laptop...that or it'd get a nice surge.

the power adapter works fine, cause i tested it. i tried three different outlets around the apartment and they are all the same. right now i am using my desktop cause my laptopn wont turn on with out turnoff after 5 seconds and it makes the noise but the original post was done on my laptop an hour ago or so. would a surge work?

i am writing this from my laptop. i just got it to work, but i dont know how long it will last. i was moving around the thing that plugs into the laptop and when i moved it to the right it work, so currently i have it taped that until i figure out how to fix this. i am guessing its not the power adapter but a porblem with the laptop itself:(. hopefully it is fixable cause i use this everyday for school.

okay, i did some reading and a lot of people have had similar problems. it is the power jack thats gone loose. it probably got loose from the motherboard. do you think this is easy to fix? can it be done?i am hoping it is!!!

no, its not under warranty, dont worry i am not going to try it. i only meant if it is worth taking into a repair shop?

Power jack

If you think it is not worth going to repair shop, try opening the case by yourself and get a glue that used for fastens metal or something to that effect. pour 'em around the jack to glue it to the board. :D

i took it to the repair shop and they said that they can fix it for $10, which i think is pretty cheap.:) thanks for you guys help!! hopefully the laptop will be fine when i get it tomorrow:)

the power adapter that is saudered into your motherboard has come loose. You either have to find someone who knows how to sauder that kind of thing, which you probably never will, or you need to replace your motherboard which will cost over 600 at a repair shop, or your best option is to just buy a new laptop:( . Sorry i have to be the bearer of bad news, but this is a common problem that i see come into the tech shop everyday.
