Hello i am thinking of buying a new laptop but for use in college i dont want it to be very expensive, i wanted one that had a graphics card of at least 128mb.eventualy i found one for the right price but it says "Graphics card 128MB shared Dedicated to storing information about images to be displaye d on your monitor" i was wondering if that is just a normal graphics card because most dont say "shared" if so i will buy it :D

Ty for the help

If your notebook lists the term "shared memory" in its specifications, it is likely that it contains no dedicated video memory. The video controller shares system RAM with the CPU, eliminating the requirement for dedicated Video RAM. For notebooks that use shared RAM, the video controller's capability is the limiting factor for screen resolution.
here are two drawbacks to shared RAM: The video controller accesses shared RAM slower than dedicated Video RAM, and the memory used by the video card reduces total system RAM available to software programs.
dedicated video memory is always a better choice.

ok...

I understand now that it isnt as good as 'dedicated' but talking about technical things is like a different language to me after all my name is Computernoob..

thnx anyway

P.S i still dont have a clue whether this will be ok to play games with 128mb requirments :(

You can use the shared memory, but there will be chances of bottlenecking and stuttering during game play. Also, if you share a full 128mb, it's actually taking away from your RAM. So if you had 512mb installed, your system RAM would be only 384mb. Dedicated is always best, but you'll have to look elsewhere for something like that. You probably wouldnt find something like that in a budget system at Best Buy.
