Laptop purchase help

Hello everyone!

I'm not very technology oriented, but I'm in the market for a new laptop. Problem is, I've got so many criteria, I don't even know where to begin! If anyone could offer any advice or computers that could point me in the right direction, that would be awesome. I'm moving to Germany in a few months for my next degree, so I need a computer that meets the following criteria, the more, the better:

--under 1000 dollars (under 700) would be even better.
--a German keyboard (QWERTZ)
--compact and lightweight
--long battery life
--advanced music/video editing options
--a PC
--hardy and/or idiot proof

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Any chance this purchase can wait till you are IN germany? Because it will be hard finding a laptop with a german keyboard configuration. Also once in germany, I think you will need to purchase a new power adapter, since they use a different outlet.

If you need it now, you would be willing to buy a keyboard later on, in germany?

If not either of those, chances are, you may have to change the configuration on the computer, and then label the keys accordingly.

If you aren't willing to do any of those, I don't think I can help you, but someone else may be able to.

Kannst du deutch gut sprechen? :D

Technically, this purchase could wait, but I've got brilliant tech friends here who will set it up for me, and I very badly need that. Theoretically then, should I buy it from a german dealer and have it shipped?

ja, kann ich! :D

I am going shopping with my daughter today...I could price a couple for ya. MediaMarkt is stocking up on everything for the holiday season.

I see you want it "compact and lightweight" What does that mean? Like a 10" netbook style compact? Or like a 13 or 14" with normal hardware?

I think a 13 to 14 inch, from what I understand, the netbooks aren't so great when it comes to video and audio editing

The Intel Atom processors in the netbooks are weak. They just do very basic functions. I will look later today and see what I can for ya. There is notebook sales everywhere right now.

Bis spaeter!
