I have a toshiba Satellite A105-S101

and the maual and pdf manual on the website says it supports up to 2gb

I have a 1gb stick i just bought and a 512mb stick which it came with, how come it only reconizes the 1gb...?? they are both the same speeds and all... some one help me..!!!

might be a dual-channel thing only, so you might have to throw in the same kind (and size) of ram.

typically you'll have more luck if you have two chips that match. If you buy another gig to go with your current gig then it should detect it just fine. What you're probably running into right now is some sort of conflict between the two chips... Something to do with the speed of one vs. the other or something of that nature. If you have the money i'd go ahead and buy another gig for it.
