i plan to buy a laptop but going through the dell site i had a few doubts:
1. is it not possible to make partitions later in a laptop later coz i saw dell charging extra to partition the HDD.
2. can i install another OS on the laptop with XP installed.
3. is it possible to upgrade the graphics card from an integrated one to one of say Nvidia? what are problems with integrated graphics cards..

well first off, you could go better than a dell, you need to look at tigerdirect, newegg and a few others to see what u can get for what price because:

3. not really and if you could it would be an expensive and annoying process.
basically integrated graphics take some of the ram to power the graphics. this can be slow for the computer because not only are integrated graphics bad, but they also leech off the ram. if u want to play games at least be looking at a 6600go from nvidia anything above would be preferable

2. yes if u want the various linux OS's

1. usually, though not sure on a dell should be able to though.

1. couldnt Dell just be charging to parition it? i mean for money
2. Ofcourse you can out anohter os on there(but your limited to basiclly linux)
3. There are 2 kinds of graphics on laptops(or any computer for that matter). Intergrated and Not-Intergrated. A laptop is either intergrated or not no way to change it. :(

Yes you can, with Partition Magic 8 for example. I just bought an Acer myself which came with two 50GB partitions (I don't see the point in that?), so I used Partition Magic to make one 100GB disk. Be carefull not to remove the partition with Windows preinstalled on it though, as mentioned above.

And you should be able to install another OS on it besides Windows, but on another partition than the one Windows' on :P

Of course I don't know if Dells have any restrictions that would make anything of the above impossible, but I think it should work.

Good luck

You can make partitions if you want, or delete ones they have on there.

Yes you can, but Dell includes a few programs and has certain settings on their pre-installed OS, so buy installing a different OS you may loose some of the programs and keyboard hotkeys.

If you have integrated then you cant upgrade, unless it has a MXM or AXIOM card. (which is doubtful)
