Laptop RAM???

I want to upgrade the RAM as much as I can in my older laptop, in there right now is 256 MB of PC100 Sodimm (SDRAM). Can someone tell me what all of that means and what my best options for upgrading are?

your best bet is to look at newegg and see what they have for SDRAM, but there's a difference between SDRAM and DDR SDRAM so find out which it is
 
when stuff gets old it isn't made anymore and the price goes up, look at P3 processors, they cost almost as much as the new P4's just cause people need them and there's no other way to get them
 
Can I change the PC 100 to a different speed, if I keep the Sodimm and the SDRAM the same?

and if that were the case, would it run at PC 100 speed because thats all the motherboard allows
