Laptop really slow, have tried a few things

Hello.I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 that is having an issue. My desktop has died so I'm using the laptop. But it has been really slow recently. Initially I installed updates and it worked fast again but yesterday I turned it off and now it is slow.The internet is painful.I have installed any new updates,ran a virus scan (nothing there) I've done a defrag. Disk clean up, and it is still really slow. It wasn''t overheating when I turned it off so that's not the problem but not being a computer whiz I have no idea what to do now. Oh and it has Vista.

What's the processor speed, how much RAM do you have, and which browser are you using?

Also, which anti-virus program are you using? Crap like Norton and McAffe will really slow things down, I recommend removing them and using MSE: http://windows.microsoft.com/mse

Thanks for the reply. I have AVG and McAfee. I have 3GB of RAM and the processor is an Intel Core Duo T6400 at 2.00GHZ. I'm using Firefox as my browser.

Well with 3 gigs of ram, it should run Good.. but You are running Vista... That Might be your Problem... I would consider upgrading to windows 7...

Remove McAffe, you don't need two AV programs, and McAffe is the worst of the two you've got installed.
