Laptop running hot...

Hey All!
I have a question about my laptop. I have an Acer Aspire 5000, 512Mb RAM, Integrated Shared 128Mb Video - running @ 64Mb, 1.6MHz Turion64 processor. The issue is that it is running hot. The bottom of the laptop gets really hot as does the touchpad on occasion. I have never had it lock up or freeze yet and I can do pretty much anything that I need to, but I am concerned with the temp issue.
Has anyone else had this kind of issue? Any suggestions?

Run something like speedfan and see if it'll give you some actual temps. If it's not locking up, it's not THAT bad, but I know how it can be annoying. My laptop gets awfully warm as well.
 
Temps

I just installed speedfan. It's giving me the following:

Harddrive Temp: 44C
Temp01: 54C

Still not sure if that is too hot or not. :confused:

Yea laptops usually run hot just because every thing is so compact. Its probaby nothing to worry about. Although thats why they don't last as long as desktops.

They actually run quite hot; i wouldn't consider it worth worrying about to be honest. I had one running a stress test and i had to ask one of my colleagues if it was meant to run that hot and it turns out that it is quite normal.
 
Yeah, it's hot but I don't think it's anything to worry about. Today's laptop's just get really warm. There's really nothing you can do besides deal with it... Well, if you don't mind loosing some performace, you could try and find some software the underclock it, as I do with my laptop. Search for SpeedswitchXP. Leave it on Max Battery and see if it helps at all.

Those numbers are fine and are still within normal operating temps (you can check the websites of each individual component if you like). Yes, many laptops do get a bit warm at times, especially if you've got dedicated graphics. Many will panic because they're not used to it. Not a lot of us run our desktops on our laps to know otherwise or place our hands on the power supply, gpu, or cpu to know that desktop components do get hot just as well. And of course- fans do make sounds. ;)
 
Cooling Pads

OK, thanks to everyone who replied. It has been a big help. ;) I do have another question though, are the USB cooling pads really worth the money to run at a cooler temp? I was recommeded to get one of those and just wanted to check.

I would say yes, but many aren't always in one spot at all times, including me. So hooking up or staying in one spot wouldn't be my preference. It's up to you, if you think the heat is a problem then maybe you should use it. I'm sure you can find a few in the $12 to $20+ range. Remember than having multiple fans running underneath will add to the noise level. Some would balance out the extra heat over the extra noise level and of course, vice versa.
