I have a Dell 1.8 P4 Inspiron 8600 notebook. As of yesterday it started running really hot and has even burned my lap a few times. Has anyone had, seen, or heard of this problem? Can someone recommend anything? Thanks.
Ok I cleaned the fan of dust and it seemed fine. However the fan has yet to turn on since restarting and surfing the web, is my fine busted?
Also I keep checking my system info from the control panel and for some unknown reason the processor is running at 599 mhz and my processor is 1.8 gig.
Yep when I tried to flash the bios again, it gave me a warning prompt that said I was about to download the older bios version. But thanks for the idea, I never thought of that
ghz*. is there a reason you want it to run that way the entire time. it doesn't take a 1.8ghz computer to type up a paper and would be a waste of energy.
I just don't want my system running at under its full capacity I guess. I'll have to play a game and see what it does from there.
By the by, my fan FINALLY turned on when the system started getting really hot. I got an e-mail back from Dell and they said that it's something in the bios that keeps track of heat inside the computer and the fan won't turn on until that number is reached and that it's not unusual for laptops to become really hot. I think it's BS but I'll bend over and take it.
Thanks again for all the help!
P.S.- I am thinking about building my own desktop system and I was wondering what you all think is the better processor. Either an AMD 3200+ or a P4 running at 3.0 ghz or higher. I am mostly using it for games and business. I am looking at an 80 gig hdd, 1 gig of 400 ddr ram, 500 watt power supply, and an ati radeon 9950 256 mb video card. Thanks!
