Laptop Screen As Secondary

Hi, I've taken the connection from the laptop screen apart a bit, why is there 9 grey wires and around double that black smaller wires? Your regular VGA socket has 15 pins, 2 of which are unused...
 
Can't seems to add a photo of what I'm talkibg about at the mo, but there's another part on the screen with 14 wires - will try to get a pic up and we could do trial and error connecting wires - start with power and move on from there? Will upload pics soon...
Not as neat as an adapter but if if works...
