Laptop screen goes black- Help!

Hey guys, recently I was playing a game and out of nowhere my screen goes all black but it seemed as though everything else in my system was still going. Thinking it was just some simple error or really nothing major I restarted my computer screen was black so I just shut it down manually (during boot I'm assuming). So after a week or so I decided to turn it back on windows splash comes up I login, everything is fine. I then open up counter strike, right as that happens screen goes black. So at that point I'm thinking it's just a simple overheating issue. So I take out an old fan blast it right underneath the computer and let it fully cool. After an hour I turn it back on it gives me an error about windows boot being interrupted. I'm guessing after I manually shut it off it restarted on its own and decided to shut down yet again. (sorry if this is getting confusing) So after receiving that error message it pretty much says put in the windows installation disk. By the time I find it the computer has shut down. I power it up and put in the disk but the screen is black so I can't go through setup and possibly fix what's wrong though at this point I'm under the assumption it's a hardware problem. There are a few more factors that make this problem more of an annoyance to fix. Firstly though it's obvious it's a laptop, and I have no knowledge in fixing one. Secondly the graphics is integrated :(. Also I'm not a huge fan of overpaying other people to try and fix my laptop at an absurd price. Any idea on things I can do? I'm assuming that if I let it cool for a good hour I'll be able to turn it back on and login at least but I'm not sure how long I'll be able to do anything before it shuts down.

Thankfully my next build will be a desktop so fixing hardware will be a ton easier :o

Well, any insight on the matter would be greatly appreciated. if I can't fix it I'll end up selling it on ebay or craigslist to someone who thinks they can fix it.

Thanks!

Most likely the onboard video is overheating and would be too expensive to get the motherboard replaced. Another thing to check into would be to do a diagnostic on the hard drive. Take the drive out and test on a different system.

What do you think could be wrong with the harddrive? As I have a spare one dell sent me and forgot to ask for the old one.Could I just put that harddrive in and see if it boots? By the way, what do you reckon I could get for it on ebay if I were to sell it?

Specs:

500gb 5400 rpm

6 gb ram

intel i7 2.8 ghz

1920x1080 screen 15.4"

Windows 7

Only specs I can remember off the top of my head.

I think I could get around 450 for it :/

You can't sell it with it overheating like that. A bad hard drive can cause weird things to happen to pc/laptop.

I meant sell it to someone for cheap who thinks they can fix it, not scam someone by selling them a faulty computer without them knowing. And yeah after I find some form of a manual on how to open this up I'll switch out the hard drive and see what happens.

Thanks!

I'm typing this on the computer that was having problems. It seems to be working well enough that it isn't shutting down and the screen isn't going black. There is one problem though. When I play any online video from youtube for example the space where the video should be all I see is green. All videos and several games I tested worked fine so it leads me to believe it's a very specific isolated error that may not be related to the graphics card at all.

Here's what it looks like:
