Laptop screen Problem

My Acer 5300 laptop, and is only, 7 months old. Lately my screen gets very dim at times, then would brighten up back to normal. As of today, it is all dim and not brightening back up? Whats wrong?
 
now, i shut down the computer, waited 1minute, then started it again. The first screen comes on from vista asking for password, then started starting up with dim screen, and after a few things loaded a sound effect played { i guess of a program loaded, or wireless mouse connected} and then the screen went back to bright. Whats going on? The screen was always Bright until recently, from start to finish.
 
If it's not from a display driver needing refreshing even by updating the contrast/brightness controls maybe seeing a problem. You could look at the manual for setting those and see if they are set to auto.

Try not to start two threads on the same problem.
 
If the battery for the portable is starting to go that would tend to slow things down a bit. But you also see a slight wimper in voltages then when first turning it on and seeing Windows boot up.

Since it returns to the normal brightness level upon reaching the desktop that would be far more likely since the back light is what is dimming on you. After 7 months of use batteries tend to lose their recharge capacity at times.

As long as that's the only time you see it however for now it's a minor annoyance until the battery eventually gets replaced anyways. Buy any extended warranty coverage?
 
If everything is running slower when on battery that might need replacing soon. If you are only seeing the screen go dim while everything else seems normal I would agree with blacklabelrum's advisement there to bring it into the place you bought it from or another factory certified service center. They can order the replacement part if not onhand as well as guaranty the work done.
