Laptop screen

I have an HP Pavilion Entertainment PC - Hp Pavilion dv6000
I need a new 15.4" WXGA high-definition Brightview WideScreen display because my screen has a darkened look to it and I have attached it to a desktop monitor and it comes in great so I know it is not the rams or the video card/motherboard. I know it is not overheating because the laptop is cool and I hear the fan run. But I don't know if I need the screen or the inverter... How can I find out which one or does it come together like that???
any help would be appreciated.
 
Did you check the brightness settings under power control? If you are running on battery, then the screen by default will be dimmer, in order to conserve power.

Failing that, then it's most likely the inverter.
 
Thank you for replying. I did check the brightness, etc., works good on different monitor so I ruled out rams/video(motherboard), so that left me with the inverter or the screen and I don't know how to tell which one or if the inverter and the screen are one unit and sold that way.
Also since I am new at this how did you know it was the invert and not the screen?
I would really like any further assistance you can give me.

Go here and enter your laptop's model number, find the inverter part number and then do a search (using your favorite search engine) for that part number.

You will likely find the part available on eBay for a lot less than HP would sell it to you for.

When the entire screen surface is suffering from low image intensity, then the problem is generally the inverter.

This does no mean that the problem could not be the LCD panel itself, but considering that an inverter is both cheaper and easier to remove and replace, the best way to troubleshoot this issue would be to get a replacement inverter first and try it.

HP builds their laptops highly modular, which is a good thing for those of us who like to maintain their own equipment.
