Laptop Shuting down

My wife has an old Acer Extensa 2000 that she has been using without a problem for over a year now, but for some reason now its has started turning itself off for no aparant reason. There is no noise when it shuts off (no beeps) its asif you have held the power button for 5 seconds, it just switches off. The first time it happend it was 38 degrees out side so I though maybe it had overheated but the temperature over the last 3 days has been much lower so I am at a loss to explain why this is happening. Can anyone help me?

Where are you using it? Make sure there is plenty of air circulation and that it stays cool. Also check the Windows error log for any trouble signs. What is your wife doing at the time it shuts down? Anything processor intensive?

How warm is the underside of the laptop when it shuts off? More than likely it is a overheating problem, regardless of what the outside temperature is.
