I am saving up and about to buy a new laptop since my current HP Intel Centrino Duo dv1000 is not working properly. I have had it for quite a long time now throughout college and I had a lot of problems with it not being properly protected against websites and Norton was the problem. Now my laptop only works when it is being charged so it needs a new battery but I rather purchase a new laptop I really need for school then buy a new battery. I was set on purchasing a Dell but I have heard problems it has constantly with their keyboards, is it true?? I want a laptop not too big but great screen detail, with good USB ports, good battery life use, 4gb memory and a good hard drive, its main use is for the internet speed, pictures, some movies, listening to music and typing a lot for reports for school. Any suggestions especially on protection software, I use Webroot??
Now I am having trouble deciding between Asus and the Sony Viaos. These are the two I am choosing between:

from my experance with anti virus protection I would go with ESET NOD 32 it has worked great for me for years. I haven't had any problems with it so far.

If you are not in the market for buying your anti virus software I would recommend you go with Avast Antivirus Free. I really like this software because it has a background scanner on it so if you visit a webpage it will scan that page for virus ect ect and if it finds anything it will take it out. It seemed to be very effective on my compuers in the past.

I sometimes also scan using Malware Destroyer form time to time because most of the time one antivirus program will not catch everything.

If you use one of these anti virus programs and have good web browsing habits you should be fine.

hope this helps!

Well in my opinion I think you should go with the Asus. I mean they both make good computers, but really the only thing you are paying for with that sony is its name and the opportunity to upgrade the ram and thats about it. You can do all the things you want to do with that Asus and save the money and get you some nice anti virus and still have some money in your pocket. Its win win!
