Laptop To Tv

I purchased a s-video to rca convertor awhlie ago in hopes of being able to watch video on my TV from my laptop. I am able to switch the display to the tv so i know it is connected right, but as soon as the windows loading screen changes to the login screen it switches the display back to my laptop. I tried changing my resoluiton to and color to the lowest possible settings. I am running a HP pavilion zv5000 with 128 shared ati moblity radeon 9000 igp. If anyone has got this to work, I would be greatful for a walkthrough or any help.

What do you mean "it switches the display back to my desktop"??

on my laptop hitting function f4 switches displays. (Makes the image appear on different monitors) So when the laptop is loading windows hitting fn f4 switches the image to the tv, but once windows logon appears the image on the tv disappears and reappears on the laptop.
