laptop touchpad mouse

Problems with a laptop touchpad mouse. It seems that the weight or something is off in it. If I let it sit just normally on a desk it is fine. When I move it the mouse goes crazy and begins to roam to the top left corner or bottom left corner. Really annoying. Any solutions?
 
I beleive they work by heat, so weight shouldn't have anything to do with it... I assume this is a pad and not one of those track sticks or something? It sounds more like a problem one of those would give...

Does it get very warm around it or anything?
 
Ah, heat. Thanks. I never knew how it actually worked. That makes sense now. It is a pad. It does get pretty warm at times since it is resting on a glass table most of the time. Is there an easy solution for the moving cursor? Replacement? Or should I just try to keep it in a cooler spot and see if it improves?
 
Or, you could try getting an external mouse since usually those laptop mice are so horrible anyway... :) (just my own humble opinion ;))
