Laptop turns of when ac adapter is plugged in

Hi, my laptop (Toshiba Satellite Pro A300) turns off when the ac adapter is plugged in. This happened after I re-installed the operating system (XP). I thought it could be the actual installation so I re-installed it with no luck. The laptop, however, works perfectly in Safe Mode and running on battery in normal mode. When you plug in the AC adapter, it turns off sometimes straight away or after 15 minutes. I have upgraded the bios. It's not an overheating issue as I have monitored the temperature with speedfan and I have also opened the laptop up and cleaned inside. I have also tried with another working AC adapter with no luck aswell. And taking the battery out and just the AC adapter, also with no luck. I'm thinking it is a software issue as the laptop was working perfectly before I re-installed the OS (the disc was just a normal OEM copy of windows xp sp3). Any suggestions on what I could try next?
Thanks.

Strange, I've never heard this before... I'm guessing it could be a glitch with the power management software... Does it shut down normally or just turns right off?

I would say there is an issue with the charging system in the laptop. Would have to be sent in to be serviced.

Thanks. But this issue wasn't happening before I reinstalled the OS. And it charges the battery when it's off and works perfectly in safe mode which it also charges the battery. So it must be a software issue??

Does it shut off if you plug it in while booting? If so, it isn't a windows issue. It's the laptop itself.

Thanks for your help guys. I did install a copy of Windows 7 - still same issue. (Now running back on XP) So the laptop doesn't shut off during booting. It's only when it gets into windows.
