Ugh, no it doesn't have "twice" the CPU power than the Dell. The Dell I recommended is 3.1 GHZ and your HP is 2.5 GHZ.

The general consensus on the Internet is that HP sucks.

But you didn't answer my question on what the laptop will be used for. If it's only for office oriented tasks than 8 GB is way over board. 4 GB is all you would need.

I have had four Dell laptops and a Dell desktop that I customized the crap out of except the mother board and they all have been great. I'm typing on a Precision M6300 now. It's only a dual core 2.5 GHZ, but I don't use it for hard core gaming. Just Sim Cith 4, Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour and a Super Mario emulator. Soon to put a N64 emulator for Goldeneye and perfect Dark. But I can use LibreOffice, Foxit and Thunderbird without a hiccup. You could even get by on an i5 if the laptop is just for office work. My desktop is for hard core gaming.

You wanted opinions...

I think what you mean by "twice" the CPU power is the RAM? The RAM in that HP is 12 GB, but in the Dell it's 8 GB.

Here's a Asus that's cheaper than your HP and meets your requirements. http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-17-3-i7-...F8&qid=1420961658&sr=1-5&keywords=asus+laptop

Here's an Asus i3. If the laptop is only for office stuff then it should suffice. http://www.amazon.com/Asus-K73E-BBR...8&qid=1420961658&sr=1-20&keywords=asus+laptop
