laptop upgrade?????

I have an old old old compaq contura 486 non pentium laptop running the fuel injection on my bracket racer mustang. This computer is custom mounted in the car. Lots of fab work to do this. Now it is outdated(go figure) I want to upgrade my injection but to do that I need to upgrade the laptop to run XP. I am thinking new motherboard and processer. Can I do this????????????

like im finding out its cheaper and easier to just buy new than to upgrade or fix the old computers...the way of the times i suppose....

ok ok ok I will buy a new laptop and refab some mounts. I was just hoping to save myself some major fabrication work. But I guess not.

Even if the computer was newer, I seriously doubt you'd be able to find any upgrades. Laptops just aren't upgradeable. Newer ones are beginning to offer more leeway(upgradeable processors, some GPU's, miniPCI slots...) But still extreamly limited. I don't know how "customized" your laptop is, but even things like LCD's and keyboards wouldn't work with later laptops.
