Laptop video issues

Hey guys this one is kinda strange as i have never seen this one. I have a laptop compaq that i was given because the user gave up on it and bought a new one and this one is only 2 years old and has 2 gigs of memory so i want to try and save it. The screen only displays white no other colors. I cannot see the bio's as as soon as it starts it is a white screen. But if you let it boot and go into windows and hook up an external monitor it comes up and works fine just not on the laptop. Would the white screen mean the lcd is dead?

Here are my questions:
1)Can you get into bio's anyway in windows? (probably not just curious)
2)Can i test the lcd to see if it works?

Steps Taken:
1)Took the video card out and put it in another laptop and it booted up just fine in that one.
2)Hookted up an external monitor and it worked just fine.
3)Reinstalled windows xp pro didnt fix it.

I'm just totally lost any suggesetions would be great!

It doesn't sound like it’s a video card problem since you said that it worked on an external monitor. It could be something as simple as a loose connection. But it can also mean that the logic board on the LCD screen has failed. Since its two years old, I suggest you take it in to an electronics repair shop for an estimate, but first check if it’s still under the manufacture’s warranty (repairs will be done by them or they will send you a replacement laptop, it depends).

its out of warranty i checked i was kinds thinking the lcd logic board was bad to unfortuinately how much does a new monitor or board cost?

isnt there like an option on laptops that has to do with using an external monitor. i remember from past laptops that theres a shift or function key you press to go to the external monitor only, and then external and the laptop display simotaneously

yea its function and f3 on this laptop it will display the external monitor then problem is the laptop monitor only displays white nothing else no matter what you do i have tried reformatting flashing the bio's it has to be an internal problem with the monitor and we have taken this thing apart from the bottom up before we did that it wouldnt even boot and not it at least is booting.
