Well, it comes on the fan runs but no picture. the lights on the screen light in the background but no picture. also when i push a volume button or a button for the dvd it makes a sound like it always does. no beeps on start up. its a HP Pavillion dv9000

try a VGA cable. Some HP laptops are picky about how they will boot. I know my G61 will not boot via HDMI, only VGA.

These models are famous for faulty overheating chipsets which causes the video to go out, which sounds very much like what you are describing.

i have the same problem on my Dell XPS m1530... i want to fix it otherwise ill just sell it for parts

I got my dell xpsm1710 fixed last year for $80, Dell did want $300 for the video card. I got help from this forum, someone point me to a guy on Ebay. Try search to see if your one can be fix.
Cheers.

well i've taken it apart and couldnt find a single problem on the GPU.
the monitor could be the issue but im not sure. im going to the computer fixing guy person at a store and see if he can diagnose.
and ofcourse with my luck, my AC Adapter exploded because my friend wanted to be funny and overcharged the transistor -.-

I'll have to see if I have a VGA cable. I'm sure I have an old one some where. I'll report back in a day or two. But like the other poster said these where known to be a bad gpu chip set.
