laptop wireless card problem

hey,

my dad's wireless card suddenly stopped working. We didn't change any setting or anything, we have restarted the computer, we have repaired the connection. Here is what happens. Windows finds the network, and connects to it, but yet we cannot browse. Any clue as to what the problem is??

First thing I would check is to see if your able to ping in a command prompt. If so then you have some piece of software, ie a firewall, blocking your internet connection. If your unable to ping then you will want to start looking at some hardware solutions such as router swapping and card swapping.
 
how would i ping a command?

i know its not the router. we have tried several things. I think the card may be broken because ethernet works. so does the modem. anyway to test withOUT buying a new card?
