I have a Compaq Pressario V6133CL that I wiped Hd, reinstalled Os(Win Xp Pro/media center) from the cd's. Reinstalled all drivers from HP. I can't get my wireless to work. The laptop has the slider bar on front for wireless but all it shows is amber never the blue light. I had removed the wireless card and reseated it, made sure the 2 wires are connected tight but still can't get the wireless to work.
Please help

In the device manager this is what is listed:
IEEE 1394 Bus Host contollers
OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller

Network Adapters
1394 Net Adapter
Direct Parallel
NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller
NVIDIA n Force Networking Controller- Packet Scheduler Miniport
WAN Miniport (IP)
WAN Miniport (IP)- Packet Scheduler Miniport
WAN Miniport (L2TP)
WAN Miniport (PPPOE)
WAN Miniport (PPTP)

NVIDIA Network Bus Emumerator
NVIDIA Network Bus Enumerator

All of the above show this device is inabled and updated drivers.
Is there any way to check to see if the wireless card is good or bad?
When I first got the laptop it did work but but ever since I wiped Hd I cant' get it to work.
Thanks

There is no wireless adapter listed there. Look in device manager for any entries with yellow question marks on them. If there are any, one will be your wireless card. By the way, looks like you have the option to show hidden devices enabled. Please uncheck that so you see the standard hardware devices.

I looked in the device manager and there is nothing there that has a yellow question mark by it. I'm not sure why the wireless card is not listed. What next?

johnb35, I checked in the bios and there wasn't anything that showed the wireless lan.I also have already downloaded the HP wireless Assistent and the wireless driver.
I was just going to update WinXp to Win7 but Hp doesn't have any drivers for Win 7 for my laptop. Was going to do a complete reinstall of Xp Home but the disc I have is retail not oem and I have it installed on my desktop. I can do a complete reinstall with the 3 disc made from laptop(back-up) but then I will have all the extra's that Hp added on, like Vongo and so forth that are out dated.
Any thoughts as to what I should do?
Thanks for all your help.

Did the wireless work before you reinstalled windows? If you installed the HP wireless assistant, does it detect the wireless card? Does it says its on and working?

Yes, when I first got the laptop I was able to connect to the internet(wireless).I was able to access my router and even my neighbors service.
After I reinstalled XP and all the stuff that Hp adds on I could not get the wireless to work.
I have reinstalled everything again and the HP wireless assisent is not shoeing up in the
All Programs list. It is showing up in the Control Panel but when I double click on it nothing happens. If I right click it shows open or create shortcut. Nothing happens when I click on open.
Last night I did a complete hd wipe and reinstall from the 3 disc and installed Xp3 but I still have to connect to the internet to do the rest of the updates and I can't do that unless I disconnect line from my desktop to hook up my laptop.
Does any of this make sence?
