Laptop won't boot up 90% of the time

I have a Dell Latitude laptop.

It has decided to do this cute little trick where it won't even turn on.

Every once in a while, it will boot up, then the screen goes black right after it brings my desktop up.

Then a few times it would get to my desktop and restart the whole boot process.

A few times it went black but the {LED?} lights were still on indicating the computer was on.

I am assuming this is a hard drive issue since that is the worst case scenario. Anyone have any insight?

Hmmm. I can't say exactly what it is without being there to test things but, I don't think it is your hard drive (at least not just your hard drive). Even without a hard drive you should still be able to boot up and get to bios.

And while it is running if the hard drive had an issue and it couldn't write to it or something it should have given you error messages. The screen wouldn't just turn black.

Id check your power connections and I would also probably check or have some one check the display connections and such for any issues.

But maybe someone else can chime in on some of those issues as well.

Yeah...thanks.

I think I'm going to try to do a Windows repair. See where that takes me. It won't make it to BIOS, or allow me to run Safe Mode or anything. I have had to restore my desktop a few times lately, so maybe there's a file missing somewhere.

It most probably is a power issue or a bad connection on the screen, Open that sucker up and check the LCDs connection. I had this issue with an inspiron 5100 a few years ago, was a faulty lcd cable. How old is the laptop? Is the screen flimsy at all, meaning it is won't stay in place easily, moves frequently, etc etc, that could be a sign of excessive wear on the LCD ribbon or perhaps the LCD itself.
Does this happen when plugged in as well? If it's only happening on batter power, it may be the battery.

Thank you for all your help guys!
You guys suggestions made me think about the power issue. I tried to turn the computer on with the battery removed and it won't turn on at all.{Not that the battery should be in it anyway when I'm using it while plugged in!!}

It sounds like this definitely has to be the AC adapter that I plug into the wall. Correct?

All of my batteries are drained and obviously I can't recharge them to test and see if that's the case 100%....Reason would state this is probably the case though.

PS- I fiddled with the adapter and it will turn on just fine now....I can't see anything though. I guess it might be the LCD connectors. Google is not being very helpful as plenty of people like to talk about Lcd connectors and sell them....but no one wants to say how to find them or what they look like. I guess the LCD Connector society is an underground sect :)
