Laptop Won't Boot

My laptop won't boot up. It gets to the screen where you can choose safe mode, safe mode with network, etc. and shuts down. I have tried reseating the ram, which has worked in the past, but not this time. Anyone have any suggestions?
 
BTW, I only need to get it up long enough to get a few files off of it, so if there is another way to do that, I'm listening! I have another laptop and a desktop they will be moved to.

It's running XP.

Unhook the hard drive and see if it still shuts off. If it does then most likely its overheating. If not, then you have a bad hard drive.
