Laptop wont install or use .exe

Hi Guys,

I am fairly new to the world of computer technology and love to play and mess around with my computers. I love to learn new things and could really use soem advise on how to fix my issue.

So I have an older Dell Latitude D400 Laptop. (I know its old and is not worth the time to fix but I like the challenge and it is a good comp to learn on) I have evrything backed up. My fiance somehow got a nasty virus on the laptop. Maybe even more than one. This thing destroyed my AVG 8.5 and somehow erased all of the AVG user interface, it made my computer unable to restore to an earlier date and it is constanlty redirecting me from site that I need to go to. I ran AVG in safe mode and pulled out some twunk 32 virus. Later I did a search of sytems and folders and ot was still there. So I tried to manually delete the .exe file and it would come back as soon as I deleted it. So I uninstalled AVG and tried to reinstall it budt I get error messages and cannot reinstall AVG or malwarebytes or .exe files. What do I do?

I have three external hard drives and was thinking maybe I could some how install AVG or similar on the external hard drive then run my Dell of of that. I have other comps I could use to move stuff around or scan with.

I am fairly new to this stuff and really would appreciate any advice. Any links or further explanation of complicated terminogy would also be helpful.

Download combofix on another computer and save it to a flash drive and then transfer it to your computer and run it in safe mode.

Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

  • A fresh HiJackThis log
  • An update on how your computer is running
 
You have one of 2 choices then. Either take the hard drive out of the laptop and put it in an external enclosure and connect it to a desktop computer and scan the drive with a fully updated virus program along with malwarebytes full scan or back up any important data and do a fresh install of the operating system.
